Reading Out Loud

From September until May from 2pm-3pm, I can usually be found in Wellsboro, PA.  At the present time, "Acting Up" meets at the Hamilton-Gibson House.  Today, my husband, Neil, decided to join me.
I do not have children, so I do not have much opportunity to read to others.  Acting Up allows those who attend, time to read out loud.  We are supposed to have fun and nothing you do is wrong.

Today, we were reading some of David Sedaris' writings.   The whole room laughed when Neil read a line about Madonna and Michael Jackson breastfeeding.  It just seemed to impossible to image and was funny.  Some of the words were impossible to read as they were much like that vowel-less creature that is found in the comics.  Sometimes, I have had the opportunity to use accents or a deeper voice while reading.  When asked, those who want to, get the opportunity to read in front of larger groups, these are not cold reads but much practiced ones.  The group is then called "Acting Out."  Anyone is welcome (as long as they are over 55) to come and read or just listen sometimes.  It is a wonderful way to spend an hour.

Movies

I sometimes wonder if the movie reviewers have watched the same movies I have.  They panned New Year's Eve and Sherlock Holmes.  I was entertained by both of these movies.  They were fun to watch and my husband was able to stay awake during both of them.  C-Pac machines are wonderful, they make noise but allow your spouse's to get a good night's sleep and not fall asleep while you are watching movies or at a stage show.  That little machine has changed my life.  Now if he would only keep normal hours.

Friends

It was great to see a friend who I have not seen for a bit, today.  Flo had lunch with the group at the Senior Center after losing her ex-husband.  I did not know her ex well but have know Flo for many years.  She is quiet and a good friend to talk to or play cards with.  Glad to see her out and about again!

Birthdays in December

My mother's birthday was December 10 and my parent's anniversary was the 11th.  Unfortunately, my mother-in-law and father both died in December in different years.

Now December birthdays are those of my adopted sister Christine better know as Maria to me and her son Carson who is one of my grandboys.  Carson was born on the 12/5 and Maria on 12/9.  In between their birthdays is that of my adopted brother William (Bill) Land which is Dec 7 or Pearl Harbor Day here in the states.  He is a Canadian which means he is also a North American.

So December has highs and lows for me.  Happy Birthday to all those born this month!

Joined a Challenge

I decided to join some reading challenges. One is Why Buy the Cow Reading Challenge which is part of the Unread Reader Blog. A second one is What's in a Name 5. The third is to just read at least one new book each month next year.
